Betty J. DeAnda

Betty Jo DeAnda, 83, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home on Plum Lane in Carlsbad after a short battle with cancer. She was born to Wade T. and Alla Mae Hutchins on February 24, 1934 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Betty was known as "Betty Mom" to most people. She was a life long resident of Carlsbad and loved her hometown. She married N.G. (Andy) DeAnda in February of 1978. She graduated from Carlsbad High School and had a long time career as a grocery clerk at Safeway Stores until its closing. She then worked several years at the WIPP site in the lunch room until her retirement. She loved spending summers in Ruidoso with her husband and growing flowers and roses in baskets to hang around the porch and patio. Betty had 4 sisters and 6 brothers. All has preceded her in death except for her loving brother, Robert Hutchins who held her hand to her very last breath. Betty-Mom was a great role model that everyone loved, and she accepted everyone as family. She loved to laugh and taught her daughters the joy of laughter also. She loved to sew, knit, do crafts, play bingo, and go to the horse races. In her spare time, she loved to cook, watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. When she had all the answers to the game shows we would tell herit must have been a re-run, that she had seen before. Betty-Mom was extremely loving and proud of her 4 daughters, Debbie (Bill) Huff, Vickie (Leo) Estrada, Rosie (Jim) Harmon, and Pamie (Rusty) Pryor. She is also survived by her loving husband and best friend, N.G. (Andy) DeAnda, her loving brother, Robert Hutchins as well as 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, along with many, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and life long friends. The celebration of Betty-Mom's life will be at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Services will be officiated by her daughter, Debbie Huff. Cremation has taken place. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Her ashes will be spread in the mountains where she liked to go hunting andin Ruidoso at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
