Obituary Betty June Hopkins, 84, passed away Sept. 12, 2020 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 10 AM noon, Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor John Burke officiating. Betty June Jones was born on April 17th 1936, in Ashcreek O.K. She was born to Owen and Donnie Jones. Betty was the youngest of 3 boys and 5 girls. She attended in Crowder O.K. She was in FFA. She graduated form Crowder High School May of 1954. Later that same year in August, she met her husband Ronald Hopkins. On August 3, 1955,she married Ronald Hopkins. Two days after being married they moved to Farmington. Then a few months later, they then moved back to Mcalister, OK. They then moved to Medford, Oregon because Ron got onto the Medford Police Department. In March of 1957, they moved to Carlsbad, NM so that Ron could work at The Potash Mines. Betty got a job at Star Pharmacy. She worked at star Pharmacy until the birth of her only child, Rhonda in 1964. In 1970, Bettywent to work for dentist, Dr. Crooks. She worked here until her retirement in 1985. Bettybecame a grandma for the first time in October of 1983. She was a life-long member and Sunday school teacher of Blodgett StreetBaptist Church. In herretirement, she volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary in the flower room making flower arrangements for the gift shop. Betty loved to sew, being a housewife, and most of all taking care of her grandkids:Brandon, Misty, and Charli. Betty lost her loving husband July 15, 1998 and she became a great grandma for the first time on July 9,2004. She waspreceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings:Sadie, Sybel, Leo, Elouise, Owen Jr, Jean, Bill, and her husband Ron. Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda June Mendes-Kennedy,; grandson, Brandon Mendes and Michelle Alvarado; granddaughters: Misty Mendes and Charli Kennedy; great-grandchildren: Adrianna Mendes, Genesis Mendes, and numerous nieces and nephews.
