Bessie May Fulton, 48, former resident of Carlsbad, passed away August 23, 2010 in Kent, WA. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 3, 2010, 11:00 AM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Ramon V. Florez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bessie May Fulton was born December 12, 1961 in Carlsbad, NM to Leonard Fulton and Lara Dale Lennox. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1979. Bessie was Miss Carlsbad and Miss New Mexico. She attended Wayland Baptist University where she also won Miss Wayland Baptist and sang in the University choir. Bessie went on to compete for Miss Texas in 1982. She was the news anchor for our local T.V. affiliate in Roswell in the mid 80's. Bessie moved to Seattle in 1987 where she loved being involved in the community and volunteered with numerous organizations. Bessie was an avid writer, musician, and reader. She is preceded in death by her mother, her grandparents, sisters, Glen D. Clough, Joan Wells and brother, Lester Wells. Survivors are her son, Ian Fulton; father, Leonard Fulton; brothers: Leffie Sanders of Kent, WA, Sonny Clough of Winslow, AZ, Freddie Wells of Los Angeles, CA; sister: Pamela Sanders of Long Beach, CA; nephews: Steve Austin, Darrell Broughton, Aaron Sanders; nieces: Adrian Clough, Latrice McElroy, Kurrain Wells, Jennifer Sanders and Tomiko Clough. Pallbearers will be Steve Austin, Darrell Broughton, Terry Austin, Dick Young, Rushie Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Sonny Clough, Leffie Sanders and Freddie Wells.
