Bernice Woods

Bernice Woods, 92, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away September 23, 2009 at Landsun Homes. Visitation is 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2009 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Larry Krueger and Rev. Daniel Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bernice Woods was born December 23, 1916 in Ford County, Texas to Daniel Carol and Georgia Mae (Anderson) Smith. She moved to Carlsbad in 1934. Bernice married Bill Woods August 15, 1941 in Ford County, TX. Bernice had a heart of gold and was cherished by her family. She loved her family and friends deeply and they loved her in return. Bernice will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Woods; daughters: Linda Pauline Garner and Gwyn Snelson; two brothers; two sisters; granddaughters: Theresa Slinger, Kim Denton and great-granddaughter, Linda Thompson. She is survived by her two daughters, Melva Wade and husband, Leon of Carlsbad, NM, Darlene Batey and husband, Laython of Green River, WY; thirteen grandchildren: Darla Nesbit, Susan Thompson, Cheryl Vlosich, Shelly Purpura, Robert Wade, Carl Garner, Gaylynn Paxton, Lori Rockwell, Eugene Batey, Deanna Welch, Scott Wade, Larry Snelson, Billy Snelson; 39 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Billy Snelson, Matt Thompson, Scott Wade, Heath Fowler, Trey Thompson, Eugene Batey. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
