Bernice Pelletier, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend went to be with our Lord on September 6, 2016. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016, 10:00 AM, at Blodgett Street Baptist Church with Pastor David Prell officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Known to her family as Granny or Aunt B., Bernice was an example of grace and love for all who came in contact with her over the years. Born, November 16, 1938 in Justin, Texas to Irvin and Ora Mae (Stewart) Smith. Bernice moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in the 50's. She was the second to the youngest of nine siblings. Bernice was an avid quilter and graced many people with her lovely quilts. She made many of the uniforms once worn by the girls at President's Park, many outfits for her daughter, granddaughters, and their friends. She enjoyed being with her family and listening to them play music at the family reunions. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Joseph John "Pete" Pelletier, daughter, Jody Breed, two granddaughters, Missy Pecore and Kellie Garrett, four brothers, Vernon Smith, Nolan Smith, Lawrence Smith, and Melton Smith, and two sisters, Oleta Barnard and Polly Hudman. She is survived by her sons Fontaine Garrett III and his wife, Rhonda, and Randy Garrett, all of Carlsbad, NM, daughter Kathryn Lee of Midland, TX, daughter Connie Pelletier-Pecore of Midland, TX and son John Pelletier and his wife, Kim of Joshua, TX, 6 granddaughters, Fran Wood of Artesia, NM, Clancey McMillan of Carlsbad, NM, Nikki Pelletier of Midland, TX Savanah Cass and Sarah Markham of Carlsbad, NM. Two grandsons Michael Pelletier of Artesia, NM and Slade Lee of Odessa, TX, 9 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. If you've been blessed with the gift of a quilt made by Bernice, please bring it to the service to be displayed on the pews at the church to show her generosity and love for quilting. Pallbearers will be: Dakota Ferguson, Chance McMillan, James Cass, Todd Suter, Kevin Phillips, and Kody Phillips. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
