Barbara Runkle

Barbara Runkle, 72, of Cimarron Trail, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away December 18, 2010 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 22, 2010, 10:00 AM, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Philip Lairson officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Barbara Runkle was born October 24, 1938 to Bill and Irene (Malicoat) McGinnis. She moved to Carlsbad as a young girl and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1956. Barbara married Jim Runkle on August 5, 1956 in Carlsbad. She was co-owner of Runkle Furniture for several years and then worked for the City of Carlsbad in the Water Department until she retired. Barbara was an active member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ. She was a volunteer at Lakeview Christian Home for many years, serving on the Annual Memorial Quilt Committee. Barbara was also a member of the Red Hats Society, Lakeview Chapter. She was always known to put God first in her life and she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Chris Castillo; brothers: Billy McGinnis and Bobby McGinnis. Survivors include her husband, Jim Runkle of Carlsbad, NM; three daughters: Debbie Shelton and husband, Glynn of Carlsbad, NM, Terri Chapman and husband, Jim of Gallup, NM, Joyce Brazeal and husband, John of Carlsbad, NM; nine grandchildren: Rick Castillo and wife, Cindi, Nicki Morrison and husband, Jeff, Andrea Molina and husband, Mike, Sara Whitzel and husband, Michael, Orlando Castillo, Cassie Florez and husband, Jarod, Callie Valentine and husband, Michael, Kristen Steward and husband, Will and Candace Smedley; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles McGinnis and wife, Margaret of Carlsbad, NM and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rick Castillo, Jeff Morrison, Mike Molina, Michael Whitzel, Orlando Castillo, Jarod Florez, Michael Valentine and Will Steward.
