Armando Acosta

Armando Acosta, 61, of N. 10th Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away May 3, 2011. Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, May 6, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for Friday, May 6, 2011, 7:30 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2011, 9:30 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Armando Acosta was born January 9, 1950 in Carlsbad, NM to Manuel and Corina (Armijo) Acosta. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1969. Armando married Rosanne Munoz in July of 1971 here in Carlsbad. He received a Bachelor degree from the University of New Mexico. Armando eventually earned a Master's Degree. He taught at Alta Vista Middle School 28 years until retiring. Armando enjoyed teaching history, but most of all coaching. He loved anything to do with sports. He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife Rosanne Acosta. Survivors include sons: Aaron Acosta of Carlsbad, NM, Jerome Acosta of San Diego, CA, Tim Acosta of San Diego, CA; grandson: Michael Parraz of Carlsbad, NM; sisters: Chris Sillas and husband, Manuel of Carlsbad, NM, Carol Garcia of Carlsbad, NM, Evelyn Lane of Carlsbad, NM; brothers: Joe M. Acosta and wife, Sara of Flora Vista, NM, Cecil Acosta of Las Vegas, NV, Rudy Acosta and wife, Ester of Rio Rancho, NM; and numerous neices, nephews, cousins, aunts. Pallbearers will be Ruben Chavez, Rick Onsurez, Frank Garcia, Chapo Ramirez-Sebastian, Ray Sillas, Robert Quesada, Alan Garcia and Fred Garcia. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
