Anne Bergeron of Preston Trails Court, Carlsbad, NM left this world on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 to reunite with her husband, Arthur Richard (Dick) Bergeron. They had 56 years of marriage together. They met in Scotland when he was 18 and she was 16, prior to him being sent to France for the Normandy invasion in World War II. After the war she flew from Scotland to New York City where he placed an engagement ring on her finger in a taxi there. They married in St. George's Church in his hometown of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts on November 8, 1947 and remained in Chicopee Falls for three years, until his recall into the U.S. Navy at the start of the Korean conflict. A firm believer in "whither thou goest, I will go, whither thou stayest, I will stay, thy people shall be my people," she made a home for them where ever the Navy sent him. She and the children would be there when his ship retuned to port. His final duty with the Navy was serving as station keeper to train Naval Reservists in Carlsbad, NM. After living in Norfolk, VA sever times, Maryland, Florida and Morocco twice, they were not ready to move again and ended up making Carlsbad their permanent home. After Richard's retirement from the navy they satisfied their love of seeing the world by traveling through more than forty countries and forty-eight states (didn't make it to Wisconsin and Minnesota). After being a full time mother while her husband served his country, she decided to return to work, doing what she loved, bookkeeping and accounting. She was given a position at the Carlsbad Current-Argus and was the Circulation Department assistance manager and accountant until she retired 27 years later. Annie was born at her grandmother's home at 5 Guildford Street, Brierfield, Lancashire, England on Good Friday, April 15, 1927. Annie was the daughter of Robert McGoldrick and Mary Wotherspoon Monteith McGoldrick and spent her childhood in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She received her early education in Old Kilpatrick, later studying in various colleges where she lived. Her son is Robert Derek Bergeron of Raleigh, North Carolina, her daughter is Michele Bergeron-Coldsnow of Centennial, Colorado. Robert and Jenny Spann Day are the parents of grandchildren Heather and Eric. Michele and Rick are the parents of grandchildren Kristin and Kent. She is also survived by nieces, Andrea, Denise, Cheryl, Mandy and Tiffani. Grandchildren who have gone before are baby boy Bergeron and twins, Gabrielle and Daniele Bergeron and great-grandchildren twin Bergeron boys. Anne was a parishioner of St. Edward Catholic Church since 1967. After retirement, Anne's favorite activities were line dancing in Country Gold Classes and jamborees and socializing with friends over lunch or coffee. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club of Carlsbad and served as treasurer for 7 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Scarlett Strutters Chapter of the Red Hat Society, the Eddy County Republican Party Committee and former ten year member of the Beta Rho Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Her hobbies included enjoying her computer, reading, crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, knitting, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. Her ashes together with her husband's will be scattered by the US Navy in the Atlantic Ocean. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, April 29, 2011, 10:00 AM, St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Cyprian Uline, OFM, Conv., officiating.
