Anna "Gracie" Mathews, 76, of Sena Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her home.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2017, 2:00 PM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Mike Veilleux officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Anna "Gracie" Mathews was born April 6, 1940 in Ft. Sumner, NM to John Robert and Grace Eleanor (Forehand) Smith and moved to Carlsbad as a young girl with her parents. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1958. Gracie worked as a waitress in the early days and later worked as a rural mail carrier over 30 years. She was past president of the NM State Rural Letter Carriers Association. Gracie worked as the assistant manager of the Casio at the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1558, where she also volunteered many hours. She enjoyed bowling, Bunco, dancing, puzzles, dominoes and audio books. Gracie adored her four-legged babies, Bandit and Buffy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R.W. Mathews; grandson, Scott Brandon Mathews; four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors are her son, Ritchie Mathews of Carlsbad, NM; stepchildren: Ronald Delk and wife, Gloria of Winston Salem, NC, Cheryl Lete and husband, Fred of Albuquerque, NM, David Mathews of Albuquerque, NM, Louanne Gianopoulos and husband, Demetrius of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren: Aaron Harrelson and Thomas Daniel Mathews and numerous nieces and nephews.
