Obituary
Anita N. Pena, a former resident of Carlsbad passed away December 22nd, at her home in Albuquerque with family at her side. God granted her wish of reaching 100 years back in July. She was so happy. Anita was born July 26, 1920 in Alpine, TX to David Navarrette and Maria Rey. She married Guadalupe Pena in 1940 and soon started a family. Anita worked hard at various hotels in Carlsbad and Albuquerque.
A devout Catholic, she enjoyed going to church and showed her family by example what it is to have faith and love for God. She always sent off family with a sign of the cross which we all came to wait for and appreciate. She was our treasure, blessing us with her rosary and sign of the cross.
Anita loved beginning her days with morning coffee and biscochitos. She enjoyed going to the casino and patiently played the slot machines. Most other nights, she would be curled up watching her novellas.
The strongest woman to us all, she was matron to 5 generations and a true blessing to us all.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guadalupe C. Pena; sons: Lupito Pena, Samuel Pena and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors are her children: Delma Lopez, Elizema Pena, Demetrio Pena and wife, Mary, Mary H. Munoz and husband, Adam, Elva Pena, Evangelina Navarrette and husband, Guillermo, Ester Boyd and husband, Jerry Lee, David Pena and wife, Otilia, Gloria Campos and husband, Sam, Lorinda Bailey and husband, Frank, Lucinda Tafoya and husband, Rick, Laurie Ann Fluellen and husband, Michael, and Louie Pena and wife, Joyce; 46 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Alvaro Navarrette and wife, Inez and numerous nieces and nephews.
