Anita Valenzuela Carrasco, 81, of Washington Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home and will continue from 6:00 PM - to the Vigil at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 DeBaca. A Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Anita Valenzuela Carrasco was born August 14, 1930 in Alpine, Texas to Lionedez and Sara (Ramirez) Valenzuela. She grew up and attended school in Texas, helping in the family home. In 1948 the family moved to Carlsbad. She met Conception Guzman Carrasco and they were married on October 16, 1952. She was a wife and mother to 8 children. Anita took pride in being a homemaker, was known for her tamales and invited everyone to come over and eat. She was an excellent cook. Anita was active in San Jose Catholic Church and a member of Caring Hands. Her hobbies included reading, cooking and doing work search puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son; two brothers: Juan and Manual Valenzuela; two sisters: Lala Portillo and Fedela Granado. Survivors are 8 children: Concepcion "Chon" Carrasco, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM, Elda Carrasco of Hobbs, NM, Edwina Rico of Carlsbad, NM, Belinda Lopez of Midland, TX and husband, Francisco of Ft. Davis, TX, Rose Ann Garcia and husband, Jose of Carlsbad, NM, Tommy Carrasco of Carlsbad, NM, Ida Mae Foster and husband, Chuck of Carlsbad, NM, Orlando Carrasco and wife, Patricia of Carlsbad, NM; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Maria "Vichie" Biscaino and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Chuck Foster, Sr., Chuck Foster, Jr., Adrian Carrasco, Orlando Carrasco, II, Daniel Hernandez, Gary John Gonzalez and Jocelyn Carrasco.
