Amy Kell Tschappler was born May 18, 1924 in Oakland City, Indiana to Raymond C. ("RC") and Esther (Houchin) Kell as the 3rd of 11 children. She received her A.B from Central College, Pella, IA and her Master of Science at the University of Illinois. Amy was Associate Professor of Natural Science at Oakland City College. She married Sammie E. Tschappler on June 15, 1948 and moved to Carlsbad. They lived on East Orchard Lane for over 50 years. Amy's passion in life was teaching. Over the years, she taught in the Loving public schools and started several small, Christian schools. She loved the challenge of showing "slow" learners that they could do as well as or better than others. Amy also enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Although teaching was her passion, she also worked at real-estate, in various sales jobs and even tried her hand at politics, running for Eddy County Clerk. After Sammie passed away in 2002, Amy moved to Phoenix to be near her son Herbert & Olivia Tschappler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: John, Edwin, Fred, Raymond, Louis and James; and sister, Dora Anthony. She is survived by four children, Valerie Hett of Roswell, Margaret Kistler of Gibson, Iowa, Herbert J. of Phoenix and Thomas A. of Colorado Springs; brother Carlos "Sam" Kell of Oakland City, Indiana; sisters Aline Taitano of San Antonio, Texas and Lena Boswell of Harrison, Ark; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
