Amelia Louise Kelley

Obituary Amy passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 1, 2018. Amy was the third of five children born on April 18, 1926, in the small Texas town of Thurber, west of Fort Worth. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants. After graduating from high school, she moved to Fort Worth and went to work for the Montgomery Ward Company. She met her future husband, Francis, while working there. They moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where they were married and began their family. She and Francis were married for 49 years before he passed away in 1998. Amy was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and served as the Treasurer of the St. Edwards Catholic School PTA for several years. Amy was a loving and caring mother and grandmother to her children and grandson, and an avid crocheter, seamstress, quilter, baker and cook. Her creampuffs were legendary to her grandson, and a fishermans tale to the rest of her family. Her afghans and quilts will keep generations of her family warm many decades from now. Amy loved to put together jigsaw puzzles and play dominoes. She loved working in her yard where her flowers were always beautiful and well-tended, and her pet turtles never passed up a free meal. Amy had a gift for making everybody around her feel like her children. She was loved by everybody with whom she contacted and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her children, John Kelley (wife Jano) of Houston, Texas, and Irene Smith (husband Ernie), of Temple, Texas. Her family in Albuquerque, NM, includes her daughter Theresa Kelley Krehoff, her grandson Darren (wife Amber), and her great-granddaughter, Ivy, who always brought a smile to Amys face, heart and soul. Amy is also survived by her younger brother, John Lunardon, of Irving, Texas; her sister-in-law, Loretta Kelley, of Fennimore, Wisconsin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Kelley, and son, Robert Kelley, her siblings, Marguerite Brown (husband, C.C. Jr.), Joseph Lunardon (wife, Mary Frances), and Joan Varner (husband Donald), her son-in-law Raymond Krehoff, and her parents. A rosary will be held on Friday, July 6th at Denton-Wood Funeral Home at seven oclock p.m. A celebration of Amys life will be held on Saturday morning, July 7th at eleven oclock, also at Denton-Wood Funeral Home presided by her nephew, Father Tom Kelley. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woodmark Employees Christmas Fund, c/o Woodmark at Uptown, 7201 Prospect Place, N.E., Albuquerque NM 87110. Special thanks go out to the loving and caring staff of the Woodmark Assisted Living Facility and the staff of Armada Hospice.
