Amalia "Mela" S. Jasso, 91, of Wilson Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at her home.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Friday, March 1, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A Vigil is scheduled for Friday March 1, 2013, 7:30 PM at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2013, 9:30 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Amalia "Mela" S. Jasso was born on February 12, 1922, in Ojinaga, Mexico to Elifonso and Elena (Florez) Sanchez. She married Nieves Baeza Jasso in 1948 in Ojinaga, Mexico and they moved to Loving soon after. Mela worked at St. Francis Medical Center and later Guadalupe Medical Center, retiring after 25 years of service. She enjoyed baking, traveling and singing with the church choir. Mela was a member of the Altar Society. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and will be missed by all. Mela was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nieves B. Jasso; two infant children; siblings: Benita Gonsalez, Trinidad Vasquez and Cruz Sanchez.
Survivors are her children: Javier S. Jasso and wife, Bertha of Carlsbad, NM, Myrna "Minnie" J. Sanchez of Otis, Joel S. Jasso of Tigard, Oregon and Pat Jasso and wife, Rose of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Veronica Hill, Sydrae Sanchez, Derik Sanchez, Javier Jasso, Monica Jasso, Ariel Jasso, Alyssa Jasso and Syra Jasso; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Gage and Gunner; sisters: Maria de Jesus "Chita" Leija and Lydia Pando; brothers: Epigmenio "Licho" Sanchez, Alfredo Sanchez and Armando Sanchez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sydrae Sanchez, Christian Hill, Derik Sanchez, Joel Jasso, Pat Jasso and Javier Jasso.
