Allene "Granny" Lyon

Allene "Granny" Lyon, 83, of Camp Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at her home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, October 9, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Allene "Granny" Lyon was born March 1, 1932 in Albuquerque, NM to Thomas and Mary Jane (McDonald) Wood. She attended school in Tularosa, NM and moved to Carlsbad at the age of 15. Allene began her long time career as a grocery clerk with Arkie Roberts and Arnold Crabb on 8th Street. She later worked at Tootie's and eventually retired with Safeway after 40 years of total service. Allene was very active in the union where she also served as president. She was a member of Church Street Church of the Nazarene. She volunteered many years at Lakeview Christian Home and served as a caregiver for many throughout the community. Her hobbies included playing games, cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling, fishing and hunting. Allene was a recipient of the Humanitarian Award with the Carlsbad Foundation in the 90's. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Lucky Eggleston, Milton A. Lyon, Homer L. Roper; grandson, Sean Trafton and great-grandson, Ryan Vasquez. Survivors are daughters: Elaine Smith and husband, Jeff of Carlsbad, NM, Carolyn Trafton and husband, Jim of Vernon, Texas; step-sons: Terry Roper and wife, Kay of Carlsbad, NM, Gary Roper and wife, Susan of Carlsbad, NM; step-daughter, Carolyn Rayroux and husband, Kenney of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Shelly Rigs and husband, Larry, Kelly Smith and wife, Lori, Amy Jo Smith, Rob Smith and wife, Stephanie, J. D. Trafton and wife, Jaci, Shannon Trafton, Shannon, Teresa, Angie, Wendy, Jennifer, Bryan, Hunter, Lindsey, James and Shelli; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren ; sister, Christine Gillispie and husband, Chris of Bosque Farms, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kelly Smith, Josh Smith, J. D. Trafton, Bryan Rayroux, Rob Smith, Alvin Johnson and Hunter Rayroux. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Riggs, Jeff Smith, Jim Trafton, Kenney Rayroux, Terry Roper, Gary Roper, Christopher Gillispie, Kenny Willis, Robert Baza and Drew Baze.
