Obituary
Alicia Madrid,69, of Carlsbad, passed on to be with the Lord on January 23, 2020 in Lubbock, TX.
Alicia was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on August 22, 1950 to Lorenzo andDomingaMartinez. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1969 and accepted the calling into the religious life (The Adorers of the Blood of Christ) in Wichita, Kansas. She was a part of the religious order for two years, until she met the love of her life, Octavio "Toby" Madrid, Jr. The two were married inJune 1972and raised three sons in Carlsbad.
As the oldest of 7, Alicia spentmuch of her child and young adulthood helping to care for her younger siblings. With this upbringing, it was no wonder that her calling in life was to be a caregiver, and this was solidified when she gave birth to her two younger sons, who were mentally handicapped. Alicia's loving and devoted nature took this responsibility on as a blessing, calling them her "angels on earth" and taking pride in every minute of caring for them.
In addition to caring for her boys, she loved cooking, baking and tending to her flowers. Even though she loved winter she took great joy each spring with the planting of new flowers.Alicia also spent much of her time with her mother, who was her best friend in life. They were known to be inseparable, and when they weren't on the phone with each other, they spent lots of time running errands together, including enjoying their favorite lunch at Pizza Inn.
A lifetime member of San Jose Catholic Church, she was a prayer warrior and did all that she could to help anyone in need. While caring for her sons kept her home a lot, Aliciaalways found a way to help in emergency situations whether it meant cooking a meal, making phone calls on behalf of the family, or simply saying powerful prayers.
She was preceded in death byher husband,Octavio "Toby" Madrid, Jr.; her son, Gabriel Anthony Madrid; her father, Lorenzo B. Martinez; and her siblings Frankie, Danny and Magdalena Martinez.
