Alexander "Alex" B. Patrick

Alexander B. "Alex" Patrick, 63, of Washington Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for August 20, 2012, Monday, 2:30 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Shayla Cody officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Alexander B. "Alex" Patrick, Jr. was born January 8, 1949 in Steubenville, OH to Alexander B. and Elva Edison (McConnaughy) Patrick. He attended Carlsbad schools. Alex served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam, earning the National Defense metal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Navy Achievement medal, Combat Action ribbon and Combat Medal of Valor. Alex and Janie O'Connor were married on December 19, 1970 in Carlsbad, NM. He worked in the potash mines, as a Deputy Sheriff with Eddy County, and at the Flying X Chuckwagon for several years. In 1986, Alex began work for the Columbus Dispatch in Columbus, OH where he worked until retiring in 2004 and returning to Carlsbad. He enjoyed woodworking in his wood shop and loved music. Alex was a life long musician and was awarded nationally for his song writing accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are his wife, Janie Patrick of Carlsbad, NM; three sons: Aaron Patrick and wife, Jodie of Marysville, OH, Matt Patrick of Carlsbad, NM, Gabriel Martin Patrick of Carlsbad, NM; two grandchildren: Connor and Noah Patrick; sister, Marianne Patrick of Carlsbad, NM; two brothers: Marshall Patrick of Arizona, Tracy Patrick of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces, nephews, O'Connor family, Monk family, Essary family and other extended family. Pallbearers will be Paul Patrick, Jeff Onsurez, Todd Onsurez, Gabriel Patrick, Jason Smythe, Alan O'Connor and Brian O'Connor. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
