Obituary Albert R. Duarte, Jr. also known as "Boy", "Chapo", or "Little Albert" to his co-workers, 70, of Tansill Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away, Saturday, January 20, 2018. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 10:00 AM, at New Beginnings Church of God, 234 N. 6th Street, Carlsbad, NM., with Pastor Daniel Mullins officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. with a graveside service by Father Tom Gray. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Albert R. Duarte, Jr. was born May 14, 1947 in Malaga, NM., to Alberto Duarte, Sr. and Ester (Rodriguez) Duarte. He attended school in Malaga and Mid-High School in Carlsbad, NM. While growing up on his father's farm in Malaga, he learned how to operate a tractor at the age of 12 and began helping his father with the farm at that age. He met and married Rosa Linda Lopez from Loving in 1968. They made their home in Loving and he worked at Carter Farms and Pecos Valley Cotton Oil Mill before moving to Roswell, NM. for a few years. When they returned, they made their home in Carlsbad and he started working for Constructors, Inc. in 1974 and was still employed with them at the time of his death, having worked for the 43 years spanning three generations of owners, George Shoup, Sr., George Shoup, Jr., and currently David Shoup. Albert was passionate and took great pride in his work as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He thoroughly enjoyed what he did, and was well known by all who worked with him or knew him by his exceptional Backhoe operating skills. He was very proud of his family and he loved spending time with them. Cooking for his family on Sundays was something he enjoyed doing. His grandchildren called him "popo" and he will be greatly missed. Albert is survived by his wife, Rosa; son Ismael "Ismo" Duarte and wife, Pepper of Carlsbad, NM., Rebecca "Becky" Duarte of Carrollton, GA., and Amanda D. Sosa and husband, Ivan of Carlsbad, NM. Grandchildren, G'Rard Duarte and wife, Katie and their children Libby and Gavin, Anissa Duarte, Madison Duarte, Braelynn Rose Sosa, and step grandchildren. Priscilla Najera and Carlos Leyva. Mother, Ester Duarte of Roswell, NM., brothers, Raymond from Roswell, NM. and Danny Duarte, Reynaldo Duarte from Albuquerque, NM., Jose Duarte from Van Horn, TX., sisters, Maria Elena Duarte of Roswell, NM., Angelica Varela, Romelia Hernandez, and Christina Ramirez all from Carlsbad, NM., Silvia Peterson of Van Horn, TX., stepmother, Vicenta Duarte of Van Horn, TX., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alberto Duarte, Sr., brothers, Samuel Duarte, Arturo "Tootie" Duarte, Ezekiel "Zeke" Duarte, an infant brother, Raymondo Duarte and sister, Olidia Duarte. Pallbearers will be Raymond Duarte, Reynaldo Duarte, Jose Duarte, Jason Hernandez, Jerry Hernandez, and Cory Burnett. Honorary pallbearers will be David Shoup, Francisco Marquez, Albert Ramirez, and all of his co-workers at Constructors Inc. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
