Adam B. Hernandez, 59, of Irvin Street, passed away on January 4, 2023, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Our beloved brother passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Adam and his twin sister, Eva, were born in Odessa, TX, on September 28, 1963, to Edmundo S. and Alicia B. Hernandez.
Adam attended elementary school in Odessa and in Carlsbad at Joe Stanley Smith. He also attended Alta Vista, Carlsbad Mid High, and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1982. He always had a smile on his face, put pride in his work, and was an amazing cook. He worked at Lucy’s Mexicali Restaurant serving many roles including head cook and bartender. He was known for his famous “Adam’s Queso”. He then moved to Pecos River Café where he helped create many signature dishes. He was last employed with Eddy County as Custodial Maintenance. He also volunteered at the Village Pet Shop. He was a faithful member of San Jose Catholic Church and loved God to no end.
He was well known for his dancing skills and led many marchas for various wedding and quinceneras through Southeast New Mexico & West Texas. He also choreographed dances for quinceneras. He loved animals, especially his birds and fish, gardening, going to church, and having family gatherings. He was a father figure to many of his nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Adam had a heart of gold, was very blessed, and lived an extremely rich life. Those who had the privilege of knowing him are blessed beyond measure. Adam’s generous spirit will be passed on for many generations. He also enjoyed helping others as he would open his home to those in need. His compassion for others guided his decisions and he led by example. We have so many memories with Adam from the amazing food he made to the jokes he was always playing. He always made us laugh and feel loved. Those memories bring us tears of sorrow and grief, but we know they are equaled by the tears of joy the angels shed as they welcomed Adam with open arms.
Adam was proceeded in death by his parents and great-nephew, Gregory. Adam is survived by sisters Delma (Julian) Mendez, Elsa (Manuel) Chavez, Anna and Socorro Hernandez, and Eva Hernandez George; brothers Edmundo (Lorena) Hernandez, Alonzo (Sandra) Hernandez, Martin (Margaret) Hernandez, and Jessie (Johnna) Hernandez, 20 nephews and nieces, and 34 great nephews and nieces, and numerous godchildren.
Pallbearers: Harvey and Gilbert (III) Navarrette, Jesse Granado, Eddie, Christopher, and Anthony Hernandez, Manny and Michael Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers are Gilbert Navarrette, II, Ector, Humberto, and Francisco Brito.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Denton Wood Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at San Jose Catholic Church at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at San Jose Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Friday, January 13, 2023, with Father Martin Cordero officiating. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lucy and her staff for their generosity and love for Adam. They held a special place in his heart.
