A. G. "Alec" McGonagill, 88, of North Mesa Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, March 23, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2012, 10:00 AM, at Sunset Church of Christ, 1308 W. Blodgett Street, Carlsbad, NM, with Steve Brannan officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A. G. "Alec" McGonagill was born August 12, 1923 in Simon, Oklahoma to George E. and Laurah (Proctor) McGonagill, Sr. He married Doris Riley on December 26, 1943 here in Carlsbad. A. G. served his country in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He worked in the potash mines and later was an independent agent for Framers Insurance. A. G. was a volunteer for Lakeview Christian Home and a member of Ol' Codgers. He was a long time member of Sunset Church of Christ. A. G. was also a member of the Carlsbad Historical Society and was passionate about area history. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his children: George P. McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM, Cara Callicoat of Carlsbad, NM, Brian McGonagill and wife, Shirley of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Terry McGonagill, C.J. White, Ella Mae Stuffp, Pandi Thompson, Micah Callicoat, Brian Callicoat, Summer Daughtry, Dianna Marshall, Rebecca McGonagill, Kate Aquino, Karen Aquino, Gino Aquino, Gene Aquino; 17 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Yvonna Thrift of Dallas, Texas, George E. McGonagill, Jr. and wife, Madeline of Carlsbad, NM, Laura Meade of Carlsbad, NM.
Pallbearers will be Micah Callicoat, Seth Thompson, Brian Callicoat, Luke White, Bruce Daughtry, Adam Marshall and Terry McGonagill. Honorary pallbearers are Ol' Codgers, Brownie Ervin, Dale Burkett and John Aarnink.
